Young Sattahip Killer Tracked Down In Bangkok

A 21-year-old suspect wanted for the fatal shooting of a Navy man was captured in a Bangkok rented room, about a week after the murder. The suspect is the son of a Sattahip village chief, who is also charged with murder in the shooting, triggered by a drunken dispute at a bar.

SATTAHIP – October 4, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 6:30 p.m., the arrest of a suspect who fatally shot a Sattahip sailor was announced by Pol. Col. Chonnapat Nawalak, Superintendent, Sattahip police station, Chonburi province; together with Pol. Lt. Col. Prakorb Saengpring, Deputy Superintendent; Pol. Lt. Col. Niphon Pomsanarm, Deputy Superintendent; and the Sattahip detective police team.

The suspect, Mr. Pratya Leangton or Flook, age 21, was arrested in a Bangkok room in area of Klong Sarm Wah district. The arrest warrant charges Mr. Pratya with killing another person with intention and pre-determination along with his father; Mr. Jaru Leangton or Ting, age 45, the chief of Sattahip village, Moo 7.

On September 26 at 12:15 a.m., the suspect used a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson pistol to fatally shoot Petty Officer First Class Montri Poothapreuk, age 26, a technician of Longlom Royal boat in the Thai Royal Fleet, who was an ex-sailor student period 48.

The victim was shot in his head and right side of the body twice and died at the parking lot of a pub in Baan Taotarn community Moo 3 Tambon Sattahip, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province.


The shooting resulted after Mr. Montri accidentally bumped against a table in the pub where the suspect and his father were sitting. An argument began and escalated to the fatal shooting in the parking lot outside the pub.

Pol. Col. Chonnapat Nawalak revealed that the defendant was restrained in the jail of Sattahip police station under the strict protection of the police, with no visitors allowed for the safety of his life.

For the investigation of the suspect, the Sattahip police station will send the suspect to the command unit of police section 2 in the morning, where Pol. Col. Supphathee Boonkrong, Deputy Commander, Chonburi province, will personally interrogate the suspect.

After his arrest, the suspect told police he had discarded his gun in a forested area in Sattahip. So the police had mobilized forces together with the soldier officer of artillery department, the rescue officer of the Sawangrojjanathammasathan Sattahip foundation and Sattahip municipal to search for the murder weapon.

More than 30 officers who also used metal detection equipment searched for more than two hours in the area of Tapioca forest opposite of Rangnok hotel in Soi Wat Thepprasart, Baan Taotarn Moo 4 Tambon Sattahip, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province.

But the officers still didn’t find the weapon. So police assumed that the suspect wasn’t telling the truth about where he had hid his gun. However, in the morning the officers will resume the search.


Big Reward Offered For Navy Man’s Killer

A reward of 30,000 THB has been offered to help capture the son of a Sattahip village chief, after he fatally shot a sailor in a drunken dispute at a bar. The 21-year-old gunman yelled that he wanted to go to jail before shooting the sailor. However, the suspect fled the scene afterwards.
