Sacha Rumaner, aged 30, collapsed during a routine teeth cleaning appointment. She had been having a standard procedure and was not under anaesthetic when she went into shock. Dental staff said before her collapse, Sacha was complaining of feeling hot and having itchy leg.

Sacha’s mum, Gillian, aged 49 said yesterday her daughter had no history of allergies. She continued, “We don’t know exactly what happened but we think it was anaphylactic shock. She was not under anaesthetic. It was just cleaning – just using a mouthwash.”

Sacha, who lived in Brighton, had a tooth out with no complications several weeks before her death and had returned for a follow-up appointment.

Mrs. Rumaner from Newhaven, East Sussex, said ” I don’t blame anyone for her death, but it is an awful, horrible shock. My whole world came to a halt. No mother expects to lose her child.”

Sacha’s mother commented that her daughter struggled to cope with learning difficulties for most of her life before finding happiness in the last year.

Mrs. Rumaner, who is a support worker for children with special needs, added, “Sacha had severe mental health problems, which stopped her doing many of the things most of us take for granted. But recently she managed to forge an independent life away from home, with carers to look after her. After years of struggle she was at her happiest, with a lovely circle of supportive friends. Then she was cruelly taken away.”

Sacha had two brothers, Charlie, 25, and Samuel, 20. Her mum added: “They miss her so much. She was a nice girl.”

The investigation has begun into the tragedy, which occurred at the dental surgery run by the Sussex Community NHS Trust.

A spokesman said: “The coroner will conduct an inquest and until this process is complete we cannot comment further.”

A postmortem was inconclusive. The inquest will be in June.
