Volunteer Thai Cops Extorted Cash And Sold Drugs

Three Thai traffic police volunteers of Nongprue admitted to keeping drugs they found at police checkpoints and demanding bribes to let people go. The outlaw officers later sold the drugs. Police were alerted to the rogue officers by an informant.

BANGLAMUNG – March 28, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 10 a.m., a press conference was held to announce the arrests of three traffic police volunteers by Pol. Col. Suphachai Phuikaewkam, director of Banglamung police station, Pol. Lt. Col. Jakkrin Tuasuparp, vice detective director, Pol. Lt. Col. Nit Withinanakit, detective inspector, and the detective team.

The suspects were identified as Mr. Somyos Jessana, 31 years old, from Nakluea, Banglamung, Chonburi; Mr. Suriya Hongsam, 28 years old, from Donkaew, Maerim ,Chiangmai; and Mr. Boonkitti Rattanasin, 43 years old, from Nongprue Banglamung, Chonburi.

Police seized the evidence of 12.3 grams of ice and 3 cellphones. Pol. Col. Suphachai Phuikaewkam, Director of Banglamoong police station, revealed that the police had been informed by a spy that several traffic police volunteers of Nongprue had been selling drugs in Banglamung.

The police started to investigate, and got a report from the spy that the volunteers would be delivering “ice” to their clients at OB one futsal arena, soi 99, moo 5, Nakluea. So the police team was sent and found the suspects. The police asked to do body searches, and found 12.3 grams of ice, so they detained the suspects and seized the ice for evidence.

The suspects confessed that ice was theirs, and they got it while manning a police checkpoint, and finding it in a teenagers’ motorcycle in soi Khaonoi, moo 9, Nongprue.

So they kept the ice, and then tried to find clients to sell it to. There was a client connected to them who agreed to buy the ice for 15,000 baht. So they agreed to deliver it, and got arrested.
