Pattaya, 16 May 2011 [Pattaya Daily News]: Pichard Kong Jaren, 26, of Petchaboon province confessed that he was drunk while driving home after a night out with his friends at Bali Hair Pier, South Pattaya.

At around 3 a.m. he drove passed a group of volunteer police but did not recognised them because they did not wear their uniform, Pichard said.

According to one of the volunteer officers, Pichard continued his reckless driving even when an officer had signalled him to stop.

Therefore the volunteer police chased after Pichard’s truck and managed to stop him on the bridge over Road No.7 in Naklua, an officer said.

According to Pichard’s girlfriend, the volunteer officials approached Pichard and beat him up violently in front of other patrol police, who did not intervene in the assault.

The male and female officers punched his face with their fists and shoes while shouting, “Why did you drive like that? You nearly hit us. We called you to pull over but you just ignored. Why?” the girlfriend continued.

Pichard’s girlfriend said at one point, she knelt down and begged them to stop the beating but they refused.

Even the bystanders at the incident asked the volunteer police to stop the hitting but they declined, Pichard’s girlfriend said.

By the time the media arrived at the scene, the volunteer police have already taken Pichard to the station instead of taking him to the hearing to be charged for drink-driving.

The volunteer police, who physically abused Pichard would unlikely release him for the hearing that may expose their misconducts
