The Princess Di Controversy Refuses To Die

Despite an exhaustive enquiry into the untimely death of Princess Di, conducted by Lord Stevens, the British public refuses to accept that there were no nefarious circumstances surrounding the death of the most popular woman in the world. This is evidenced by the statements of at least 33% of those questioned, who categorically repudiate the contention that the accident was a mere accident.

            The official verdict is expected to corroborate the fact that the blame can be laid squarely at the feet of Henri Paul, who was severely intoxicated at the time of the tragic accident. This conclusion is the result of 400 witness interviews, and the scrutiny of over 20,000 official documents. The enquiry further maintains that there was no official British Establishment cover-up and no sabotage; merely that Princess Di shared the fate of countless thousands of other unfortunate road accident victims.

            However, in the controversy, there are innumerable inconsistencies and opinions, ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous, some of which are as follows:
• the princess was pregnant by Dodi Al-Fayad at the time of her death; • American intelligence agents supposedly tapped Princess Diana’s phone calls at the Ritz Hotel, in Paris;
• MI6 was involved at the behest of the Establishment;
• Henri Paul was a French secret service agent, accumulating in excess of £100,000 in 14 bank accounts and his name was on file at MI6 headquarters, according to the MI6 agent, Richard Tomlinson;
• Paul vanished for two hours prior to chauffeuring Diana;
• the French investigation was severely flawed;
• laboratory blood samples of the crash victims were interfered with;
• the cleansing department vehicles were sent into the tunnel just seven hours after the crash, thus destroying essential forensic evidence;
• on the night of the crash, the closed circuit TV cameras inside the Alma tunnel, were facing inwards towards the wall; thus could not record any of the accident circumstances, or the activities of individuals or vehicles..
• Diana faked her own death in order to avoid being further hounded by the paparazzi .
• Diana’s predicted her own death in a letter.

            Whatever the collective opinion, one notable person will never accept the official verdict, namely Mohamed al-Fayed who maintained Diana was assassinated by the British establishment to prevent her marrying his son Dodi. The last word is left to Noel Botham, author of “The Murder of Princess Diana”, who contended

            “The whole thing has been a whitewash, especially the investigation in Paris. I don’t think we’ll ever get to the truth of what really happened… but the British public can see the inconsistencies and they just don’t buy it.”
