PATTAYA-October 26, 2012,[Pattaya Daily News]; at 9 p.m., the arrests of three teen suspects for the October 22 armed robbery of a female Russian tourist was announced by Pol. Maj. Gen. Katcha Thartsart, Commander, Chonburi province; Pol. Col. Thammanoon Munkong, Superintendent Pattaya police station; Pol. Col. Panthana Nuchanart, Superintendent, Chonburi province; Pol. Col. Prapoj Chotkhun, Superintendent; together with the detective police team, Pattaya police station; and the Pattaya tourism police.

The suspects were identified as Mr. Yossakorn Prempree or Moo, age 18, address 5/3 Moo 9 Tambon Kuyaimee, Amphur Sanarmchaikhet, Chacherngsao province; “Mr. Moddaeng” (alias), age 16; and “Mr. Nu” (alias), age 17.

Mr. Nu and Mr. Moddaeng were arrested at a rental room with no address in Yailao community, Soi Korphai, south Pattaya. Mr. Yossakorn was arrested at the rental room in Soi Wall ice cream, Moo 5 Tambon Na Kleu, Amphur Banglamung.

The three suspects are charged with together stealing property and beating the victim, Ms. Jenniya Nikolina, age 25. The police seized the evidence that included a sharp knife, a digital camera, a mobile phone, some cash belonging to the victim; and the motorbike used in the crime, a blue-white Honda Wave 110 with no license plate.

Later the police restrained all of the defendants to re-enact the knifing and robbery at the incident point. As they were doing this, many Thai and foreign people were standing around to watch the suspects.

The police had Mr. Yossakorn re-enact his actions, when he rode the motorbike to follow the victim with Mr. Moddaeng as his passenger. Then Mr. Moddaeng had gotten off the motorbike and used the knife to stab at the arm of the victim when she resisted the snatching of her necklace. Then the suspects escaped.

The suspects took about 30 minutes to re-enact the robbery for police. Then the police made both Mr. Yossakorn and Mr. Moddaeng prostrate at the victim’s feet for an apology and to ask for forgiveness for their crime.

In their investigation, police discovered that before the incident, Mr. Moddaeng and Mr. Yossakorn had borrowed the motorbike of Mr. Nu to make trouble by stealing property.

Then they saw the Russian female victim walking alone by Jomtien Beach, so they stole her property and used the knife to stab her until she was injured. They then rode their motorbike to rent a room in a guest house near the robbery, to hide out from the police searching for them. Meanwhile they divided for the victim’s stolen property to sell and get money to buy drugs to consume.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Katcha revealed that the leader of this trio of thieves was Mr. Moddaeng. From checking his history, police found that he is an orphan and had lived in the children house at Bangkok since birth. However, Mr. Moddaeng later escaped from there to live with his friend in Pattaya, and he had recently just come out of jail after being convicted of stealing property.

A background check of Mr. Yossakorn revealed that he also just came out of jail, after using knife to stab a foreigner and causing injuries. The third suspect, Mr. Nu had also just come out of jail for stealing a motorbike.

So the trio of ex-jailbirds joined together to steal property in Pattaya and Banglamung, and eventually ended up stabbing and robbing Ms. Jenniya.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Katcha revealed that after the violent thugs committed the armed robbery, he commanded the police officers of every related unit to chase the thieves because they ruined the good reputation of Pattaya as a tourism town.

However, he would also like to ask the public to assist the Pattaya police in taking care of the safety of tourists, and to notify the police immediately of any suspicious people or incidents.

As a tourist resort, any crime that hurts tourists in Pattaya also hurts revenue and the future of this city, he said. The police commander also warned that for the thieves who misbehave, they have to find a way to become law-abiding to continue to live here — otherwise the police will operate to get rid of them absolutely.
