Thai Credit Card Hacker Arrested

The officers of the Technology and Crime Suppression Division co-operated with bank officers to arrest a Thai male who hacked customers’ credit card information and used it to purchase goods via the internet. There were over 30 victims totalling over 2 million THB.

NONTHABURI – March 20, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 5.00 p.m. Pol.Maj.Gen. Siriphong Timoola (Commander of Technology Crime Suppression Division) and Pol.Col. Yothin To-sa-nga (Superintendent) together made a statement about the arrest of Mr. Yossakrit Karnjanda, aged 30, who was an ex-employee of an internet provider in Thailand and used customers’ credit card information to purchase goodS. He was caught with 1 Nikon camera, 1 mini iPad, 3 computers and 4 mobile phones. He was arrested at the house no. 90/220 Moo 4 Tambon Sai Noi, Amphur Sai Noi, Nonthaburi Province.

Pol.Col. Yothin said that he was notified from the bank that Mr. Yossakrit had hacked the computer system of the bank and used the information of credit cards and personal information of the bank’s clients to order goods from online shops in various websites such as gold, mobile phones and computers. He had hacked over 3,000 clients information from the bank since August 2013 up to now and he had used the credit card information of over 30 clients to order many items which he would change the delivery location every time and he would hire someone to go to receive the goods for him in order to conceal his identity.

Upon questioning the defendant, he confessed to the crime and told police that he previously he worked as the caretaker for the customers’ information system and could access the database for the customer’s information. He also added that about 1 month before he resigned he hacked the system and took the details of customers who had credit cards or had used them to purchase goods off the internet, once he had the information he told police that he would use different peoples credit details to purchase goods off the internet and once he received the goods he would then sell them which totalled approximately 200,000 THB per month. He also told police that he used the money to pay his car’s instalments. He said that after he resigned from the company he opened his own computer system development company before he was arrested. The officers sent him to the investigation officer to be prosecuted further according to the Thai law.
