Thai & Cambodia Customs Department joined forces on smuggle goods

The Thai customs officer together with Cambodia customs officer held a meeting to discuss and exchange ideas on smuggled goods along the Thai-Cambodian borders, to look for a solution in reducing the damage valuing more than 10 Million Baht

Mr. Sangorn Puengpradits, Director of Custom and Excise Department, Region was a chairman in the Thai-Cambodia Customs Border, 3rd meeting was held last 1st September 2006, the meeting was attended by Mr. Em Khin Vorac, Deputy Director of the Cambodian Custom and Excise Department. The agenda was to discuss and to find a solution on the smuggled goods and avoiding of taxes. Other attendees were representatives of Customs & Excise Department from the 2 countries. The meeting was held at Royal Cliff Beach Resort Hotel, Pattaya.

Mr. Sangorn expressed, that in the past the smuggling of goods and tax avoiding has been the biggest problem, which was caused by the support from investors. This had caused the country to loose many millions Baht worth on Tariff. Most of the smuggled goods are mainly agricultural products in the country and garments from the 3rd world country.

The meeting ensured great benefit to the Customs, more cooperation strategy had been made to make trading very convenience, suppressing of stolen car crime, and subjugation of drugs in the border area. Both countries are quite satisfied at certain level, this was due to the exchange of information and cooperation in prevention of smuggled goods, to resolve the problems finally.

The Deputy Director of Cambodia mentioned that in the past he has been following up on this matter. Coordinating with the Customs and Excise Department with the help from the Thai officers it resulted that tax avoiding been reduced and the investors does not dare to make any kind of movement. This could be viewed as problem resolved.

The meeting between the 2 countries also create a good rapport aside from discussing about the problem. It was indeed a good opportunity to celebrate the 50th years of establishing diplomatic relationship between Thai-Cambodia and to further strengthen the relationship.
