Taxi Operator Complains Of Extortion

A Pattaya taxi operator complained to officials after they were extorted and persecuted by another illegal taxi operator.

PATTAYA – February 4,2015 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 16.00 pm at Jintapa college, Mr.Pongsak Atnukarn-president of Bo Tong taxi cooperative- and about 100 taxi operators together complained to Maj.Chutidet Singtong-deputy chief of controlling area team of Military circle 14th after they were extorted by illegal taxi drivers, they appealed to the officers to crack down and control these taxis. Mr.Prapan Pratumchomphu-deputy chief of Bang Lamung district-, Mr.Kosin Weeranunthanapun-chief of land transportation office- and police attended the conference.

 

Mr.Boonchana Saentad aged 37 one of the taxi drivers revealed that on one of the days he sent the passenger to the front of I Bit hotel, Central Pattaya, when he noticed a sedan car with a post on the roof in order to let the passengers know it was taxi car, however this taxi was from an illegal taxi station. Later he called his friends to discuss this situation with them and told them that it was illegal to do this. However, one of them pointed the gun at him and they also threatened to shoot him. Mr.Boonchana at which point he and his friends decided to leave and notify the police.

 

While one of taxi operators added that they were always persecuted by these illegal taxi operators. These illegal taxi operators cut the fare, intervene them to pick up the passengers near their illegal station. Plus, they were forced to stop the car and the passengers were made to change vehicles.

Maj.Shutidet revealed that the officers initially were investigating with other units in order to control public cars according to NCPO order especially illicit taxi operator. The illegal operators will be prosecuted accordingly.

 

While Mr.Prapan revealed that he initially reported to Chonburi governor and he ordered chief of land transportation office of Chonburi in order to clamp down these illegal operators. While the case of Mr.Boonchana will be investigated thoroughly by the police.

 

Later Pol.Col.Suktad Pumpanmuang-superintendent of Pattaya police station- detained Mr.Suwicha Satsarn aged 63 who was illegal taxi driver who was the suspect after he threatened and pointed the gun to another taxi driver to question at Pattaya police station. Initially, he rejected any allegations, plus the victim didn’t confirm that he saw the gun. The officers had to release the suspect.
