Bangkok, the 6th of July 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: TAT Governor Suraphon Svetsreni revealed that an agency meeting last week concluded that foreign arrivals during 2011 should reach 15.5 million travellers with domestic travellers expected to take an estimated 91 million flights throughout the Kingdom. Foreign travellers are expected to account for some Bt600 billion in revenue whilst domestic travel at least Bt432 billion, according to the TAT.

Chairman of the Federation of Tourism Industry of Thailand (FTIT) Kongkrish Hirunyakit was even more optimistic, stating that visitors would reach over 16 million whilst revenue of Bt600 billion was also much lower than should be expected.

Mr. Hirunyakit stated that these estimates were based upon the political situation in Thailand remaining stable and the continued improvement of the global economy, particularly in Asia.

Asian tourism to Thailand has increased dramatically over the June period, largely due to the strength of their economies compared to the European and American markets and the easing of political turmoils previously affecting Thailand. Beijing has now lifted its travel advisory warnings against Thailand and as such, a significant increase in Chinese tourism is expected of the course of the next 3 months.

Meanwhile, most major international airlines flying into Bangkok have reported increases in passengers disembarking in Thailand. Thai Airways International recently reported increases upwards of 30% in international travel into the Kingdom.

The next meeting of the FTIT is scheduled for the 15th of July where Mr. Hirunyakit stated that they would consider raising the official estimates.
