Suvarnabhumi to be open as Schedule

  The new Bangkok Airport Suvarnabhumi, the name given by HRH King Bhumibol of Thailand, will go ahead as schedule and be ready for opening on 29th September 2006. 

       The Minister of the Department of Transport has confirmed that Suvarnabhumi will be up and running on the chosen date. He pointed out that construction works at the new airport is nearing to 100 per cent completion. When the new Airport is open it will be able to handle up to 50 million passengers a year during the first phase of the airport being open, using the first two runways which run parallel with each other. 

        According to Pongsak Raktapongpaisarn, the Minister in charge of the airport operation, the new airport has all been fitted out with modern equipment and the CTX scanning machines that have previously been delayed have all been installed and sorted out. The Airport is more ready than ever to handle passengers on its first Official Day of operation on the 29th September 2006. At the moment the airport security and constant ground checks are being carried out to ensure that things go smoothly and in time for it official opening. From 29 July –28 September there will be domestic airline operators, up to the amount of 21 airlines, operating from the new airport for their premiere domestic flights. As from the 29th September, the new Suvarnabhumi will be officially open its door for both domestic and international flights.

       Once opened, the new airport will be a major hub for most major international airlines, operating from the Southeast Asian market. The new Bangkok Airport is fitted with the most modern and sophisticated equipment and highest security checks, capable of handling large commercial airplanes such as the Airbus A380‘s. Upon completion of the airport’s second phase and with its 4 parallel runways, it can easily accommodate up to 180 million passengers a year.
