S**t My Dad Says by Justin Halpern

This book is an excellent and funny read. It is not just a load of hilariously funny quotes and bad language it is also a brilliant heartfelt story, full of values and morals.

It is about a father who is wise and loving, but unable to speak without a load of expletives tumbling from his mouth. Justin is the youngest of three sons and is simply a funny guy, while his Dad, who is Jewish, is a retired research doctor and a Vietnam veteran, and is as honest as the day is long and unbelievably blunt.

When Justin found his self suddenly alone after being dumped by his girlfriend and needed a place to stay, he returned home to live with his parents. On his return, his father tells him, “All I ask is that you pick up your s**t so you don’t leave your bedroom looking like it was used for a gang bang. Also, sorry your girlfriend dumped you.”

Working from home as a writer for a magazine gave him plenty of time to get to know his father all over again, but this time through the eyes of an adult.  The fear he had felt of his father when he was young, the bluntness and the (what appeared to be) sarcastic comments, were replaced by admiration and a new light.

While reading the book, you come to realize that although a bit rough round the edges, what a good guy Justin’s father is and how much he really loves his son and family. Justin appears to be learning from his dad, his values, honesty and fair play.
This book is full of dad stories which many of you readers will be able to relate to, though most of them are gut bustingly funny. If you can’t see the funny side in book then you must have missed out in life. There is no meanness or nastiness in Justin’s father, he just tells it as it is.
