Speeding Truck Driver Runs Over A Pedestrian In Sattahip

A six-wheeler truck driver speeding down Sukhumvit Road crushed a young lady pedestrian who had attempted to cross the highway in front of him on May 28, 2008. The victim bounced off the truck and ended up 20 metres away, being killed instantly

At noon on May 28, Pol.Lt. Pitichon Therdkiet-korakul, Sattahip Investigator, received a phone call that there had been an accident in front of Soi Sattahip Sukhumvit 1. Sattahip, with a pedestrian having been killed. Police and Sawang Rojanathamasathan Rescue, Sattahip, accordingly rushed to the scene of the accident.

There they found, Miss Chontichar Meksuwan aka “Orm” (29), a needlewoman, from Sattahip, lying dead, face down in the middle of the road. She was wearing a pink T-shirt and shorts. She had broken her neck, legs and arms and her head was squashed. About 100 meters away, a white Izusu, six-wheel truck, from Bangkok, was parked on the roadside. The front of the truck had sustained damage to the left hand side. Mr. Pradab Nakdee (29), the truck driver, from Surin province, was sitting frightened in the truck.

Mr. Pradab told police that he had been speeding down the road from Bangkok to deliver water bottles to a tool and material shop in Sattahip on time. Suddenly, Miss Chontichar had run across the road, but she was too close for him to brake and was hit, being thrown 20 metres away.

After investigating the incident, police took away the deceased for autopsy at Sattahip Hospital on Km. 10, and intend to contact her relatives to take her body to perform the necessary religious ceremony. The truck driver was charged with reckless driving resulting in the death of a pedestrian.
