Sick Thief Steals From Surin Hospital Patient

An unknown thief stole a purse from a Surin hospital room containing the patient’s 70,000 baht treatment fee. He took the purse from the patient’s daughter as she slept. The patient’s brother asked the media to help find this low-life thief who preys on poor and sick people.

SURIN – March 17, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; Mr. Chaiyuth Khaimuk 40 years old, went to asked the press for help, after his sister’s purse got stolen while she was sleeping in their mother’s hospital room.

He and his sister were looking after their mother, who was in Surin hospital to have her appendix removed. The thief got 70,000 baht cash and a 3-baht gold ornament, totaling about 130,000 baht in losses altogether.

Mr. Chaiyuth showed the press a photo of the thief, taken from the hospital CCTV camera. The man in the tape was around 30-40 years old and wearing a red shirt. He acted like he was one of the relatives of the patient.

The thief walked into the mother’s hospital room at 4 a.m., while his sister, Mrs. Seetong Somchorb, 38 years old, was sleeping. He stole her bag and escaped. After taking the cash and jewelry, the thief left her bag and cellphone in a planter at the hospital.

Mr. Chaiyuth said his sister had already notified the police, but he wanted the police to accelerate efforts to follow up to arrest the thief, because he was social danger. The thief is taking advantage of sick patients and adding to their misery by stealing their money.

Mr. Chaiyuth said his family is a famer family, and they are poor. The money the thief stole had been very hard for them to get, and it was all meant to pay for his mother’s treatment fee.

The Surin hospital security guard, Mr. Nantapak Boonsakul, revealed that theft cases like this have occurred many times at the hospital. Sometimes the police arrested the thieves, and sometimes they didn’t.

Mr. Nantapak wanted to warn all the relatives to be more careful, because every day there were plenty of people coming in and out the hospital, and it was not possible to know who is good or bad.
