PATTAYA – December 27, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 12 noon, a report of a foreigner hanging himself in a Jomtien hotel was received by Pol. Lt. Col. Kreangkraivuth Buakla, investigation officer, Pattaya police station, Dongtarn Curve sub-branch.

He went to inspect the scene with the police team and the rescue officer of Sawangboribulthammasatharn Pattaya foundation. The incident occurred in room 415 on the 4thfloor of a well-known hotel in Jomtien near soi 16 off Jomtien Beach Road.

At the scene, police found the body of Mr. Alexandre Ivanov, age 55, nationality Russian, hanging from a noose around his neck in the bathroom. He body was in an upright kneeling position. The black cord around his neck was fastened to the shower rod overhead. He was wearing black pants and a black T-shirt.

His body was rigid and his tongue protruding from his mouth. Police estimated he had been dead for about 3 to 4 hours. There were no wounds or signs of being beaten on his body. No property was missing from the room. At the balcony, police found a bottle of liquor on the table, which they kept for evidence.

Police questioned the hotel maid, Ms. Urai Phaokhaeng, age 33. She told police that Mr. Alexandre and his Russian wife had checked into the hotel on December 25.

She said Mr. Alexandre would usually drink liquor and then beat his wife. Finally in the late evening of December 26 Mr. Alexandre was beating his wife again until she could not stand it anymore. So his wife made a phone call to the tour guide to pick her up. She then packed her clothes and moved out of their hotel room.

The next morning, Ms. Urai knocked the door of Mr. Alexandre’s room to enter to clean the room, but there was no reply. So Ms. Urai used her key card to unlock the door, but the door was locked from inside. So she thought Mr. Alexandre was probably still sleeping.

Many hours passed before Ms. Urai knocked on his door again, but there still was no reply. So a hotel maintenance worker climbed from the balcony of the adjacent room into Mr. Alexandre’s room, where the worker found the Russian’s body in the bathroom.

In their initial investigation, police assumed that Mr. Alexandre might have been depressed that his wife escaped from him, so he drank liquor and committed suicide by tying the rope around his neck.

The hotel contacted the tour guide and Mr. Alexandre’s wife, and police will send the body to perform an autopsy at police hospital to determine the exact cause of death.
