Russian Steals 100K-Baht Golden Chain

A Russian man snatched a 100,000 Baht golden chain and fled away with it as soon as the shop owner turned away from him.

Pattaya, 25th March 2011 [Pattaya Daily News]: At 02:00 a.m., while Police Lieutenant, Arun Prompan of Pattaya Tourist Police Department and the tourist police team were on patrol, the 63-year-old Mrs. Paradee Lertkitsathapond approached them. She was the owner of King Star jewellery shop. She reported that a male foreigner had snatched a 130-gram golden chain (worth about 100,000 Baht) from her shop and then he ran away immediately.

Based on the information given, the police started searching for the suspect and eventually caught him with the golden chain around his neck at Soi 15, Walking Street. The owner identified the suspect as the thief from her shop.

Then the suspect was taken to the police station. He identified himself as Mr. Alexander Trofimenko (aged 23, passport number 64/2606020) from Russia. He admitted for committing the theft. He said at first he pretended to be a customer and enquired to try on the 130-gram golden chain. Then he asked to have a look at another chain. As soon as the owner turned around to get the second chain, he fled away with the first chain. The police took him to custody.
