Russian jet from U Tapao makes emergency landing at Lahore

It seems Russians in Thailand are experiencing ongoing problems: first, on land and, now, in the air. After the tribulations suffered by Russian tourists in Pattaya, the 3.30 pm (PST) Russian flight (SVR-3624) to Mizhnevartovsk , originating at U Tapao Airport carrying 155 passengers was forced to make an emergency landing in Lahore after the U Tapao Air Traffic Controllers radioed the pilot to report that two of its tires had burst on take-off.

Apparently, during a post-flight inspection, fragments of rubber from the aircraft were discovered on the runway at U Tapao Airport, necessitating swift action by the pilot who contacted Lahore Allama Iqbal Airport to request an emergency landing. Accordingly, the Pakistani CAA declared an emergency at the airport. In readiness for a potential disaster, fire brigade appliances and ambulances sped to the airport and all major city hospitals were alerted.

Fortunately, the Russian aircraft was able to land safely, despite the tyre problem. However, the emergency procedures sparked a panic reaction from other flight passengers at Allama Iqbal Airport, despite the fact that the main runway was unaffected by the crisis measures, allowing normal flight operation.

The passengers on the Mizhnevartovsk flight were extremely thankful that there had been no mishap and the plane had managed to land safely. The aircraft was able to continue its journey to Russia safely at 11.30pm after having had the defective tyres changed.
