Police have tentatively confirmed that the body found in the bushes in Sattahip, last month, was indeed Mr. Chirochi Nagarano, the missing Japanese businessman, who disappeared after arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport on 14 December 2007. CCTV, at the airport, recorded the missing man’s friend, Mr. Sasaki Osshishiku, who was to pick him up and drive him to Pattaya. Mr. Chirochi, who was carrying 3.5 million Japanese yen, had not contacted friends or family since arriving in Thailand. Mr. Sasaki was arrested on 18 December 2007 for possessing eleven cartons of illegal cigarettes. Police also found a notebook computer and 3.5 million yen in his house.

On 14 January 2008, Mrs. Boonporn Yensap, the missing man’s former wife, address 162/52 Moo 10, Bangsaray, Sattahip, and some of Mr. Chirochi’s friends brought yellow flowers and food to sacrifice to his spirits, after police unofficially announced that the body found last month was Mr. Chirochi’s. Mrs. Boonporn said that she and Mr. Saishi Hamabe (55) and Mrs. Jarunee Hamabe (45), a couple who was close friends with Mr. Chirochi, were very despondent over the loss of their friend and hoped that his soul would help lead the police to quickly find the person who took his life. Otherwise, there could be a cloud of suspicion over Mr. Chirochi’s friends and associates.

Police Colonel Nopadol Wongnom announced that the body found in Sattahip, last month, was Mr. Chirochi Nagarono. At this point in time, the prime suspect is Mr. Sasaki Osshishiku, although he denies any connection with the murder; and is staying silent at this point. Mr. Chirochi will remain incarcerated for possessing eleven cartons of illegal cigarettes while police carry on their investigation.
