Pattaya Taxis ProtestsPattaya Loma Taxi Cooperative have protested against a new reregulation which prevents them from parking in Bali Hai Cape south Pattaya.
PATTAYA – July 4,2015 [Pattaya Daily News]; a group of over 10 taxi drivers called from the Loma Taxi Cooperative had blocked the road in front of Bali Hai Cape port, south Pattaya. They were unhappy that Pattaya city had set out a new policy reregulating public vehicles and also appoints areas for passengers waiting for taxis. Pattaya city only permits 2 taxis from the Udomdech Cooperative to park in the area and taxi cabs that belong to other cooperatives and private taxi cabs will not be allowed to park in this area.
According to the policy, a group of taxi business operators from the Loma Taxi Cooperative said that the policy is unfair and discriminates against other taxi operators so they had blocked the road causing traffic congestion in order to pressure Pattaya city hall into changing the regulations.
The officials took over 1 hour to negotiate with all protestors but they wouldn’t leave so they called the military to come and take control of the situation. The protesters were then told that there will be a meeting on Monday 6th July, 2015 at Pattaya City Hall where officers of government sectors and all business operators who park in Bali Hai Cape port will attend the meeting to discuss the situation. The announcement by the military made the protesters disperse.
