Pol.Maj.Witthaya Yuen-young, Pattaya Police, was notified that on July 28, at 2 PM a young Thai woman had had her motorbike kicked from under her by grab and run thieves, causing her serious injuries. The incident happened in front of Khun Ying Café, Pattaya 3rd Road, North Pattaya. A police team and Sawang Boriboon Rescue were accordingly sent to help.

At the location, police found a black and white Honda Wave 125 crashed on a side street with the lady rider victim, Miss Sopha Romyor-thinkong, (33), a staff member of a hotel in Pattaya, lying unconscious alongside in a pool of blood. A helmet and the lady victim’s household shopping were scattering around the scene. She had sustained severe injuries with a head wound and also scratches on her face and arms. A 15 gm. broken gold necklace and a Buddha image in a gold frame were still round her neck, which police kept as evidence. Rescuers immediately took the injured victim to Pattaya Memorial Hospital. Doctors, however, found her head injuries were too serious to treat locally, so they promptly transferred her to Chonburi Hospital for treatment.

A witness told police that Miss Sopha had ridden her motorbike from North Pattaya heading to Central Pattaya, presumably after shopping at Tesco Lotus in North Pattaya and was on her way home. During the journey, 2 teens on a white motorbike, wearing full crash helmets, came alongside her. The suspect on the pillion seat made a grab for her gold necklace, but Miss Sopha resisted and the necklace broke. The suspect then kicked her motorbike, causing her to fall off. Fortunately, they did not get the gold necklace, but Miss Sopha was badly injured and the suspects rode away rapidly on the motorbike, heading to North Pattaya.

Another witness tried to chase after the suspects, but they escaped. Police kept the broken gold necklace and property of the victim including her motorbike and informed her relatives to pick them up. Patrol police were assigned to search for the suspects. In addition, round about the same time, there were 3 other cases of snatch and run theft that police suspect were also committed by the same two teenagers.
