At 4:00 pm on the 14 July Pattaya Superintendent, Police Colonel Sarayut Sa-nguanpokai, and his team announced that following a tip off, 24 year old Mr. Eknarong had been found hiding in room no. 3/474, on the 14th floor of Pattaya Center condo in South Pattaya. He was immediately taken to the Pattaya police station for questioning.

He will now have to appear in court to answer not only to the original offense, but also to his escape from custody.

Mr. Eknarong told PDN reporters that he had been locked up temporarily in the Nong Pla Lai prison and the conditions were so bad that he couldn’t bear to return. There was not enough water to drink, nor to bathe, and 60 prisoners were confined to one small room. (See the PDN report on overcrowded prisons here –

When asked as to how he managed to run away with chains on his ankles, he said he just used a toothbrush to remove them. He had run into the bushes and then stayed with a man he had known for a short time before being arrested.
