More than 100 police and volunteer police along with three trucks fully equipped with search lights were sent to look for the prisoners.

The incident occured at the Pattaya court whilst officials were loading 51 prisoners, 43 male and 8 female into the prisoners truck in order to transport them to the Nong Pla Lai prison. Whilst the police were busy loading the truck, the two male prisoners took the opportunity to escape, ducking under the truck and climbing over a wall running into the Sugar Hut restaurant area nearby.

The police team, took 30 minutes to rearrest one of the men, known as Mr Ekayut Promjunya. He told the police that his friend who had escaped was Mr. Eknarong Tukkaenu. Both had been charged for possession of stolen items, probably bought from local thieves.

The police team searched through 5 rai of overgrowth, covering the areas from Pratumnak Road, Sugar Hut, the Pattaya court and Soi Thai-Norway for the prisoner who was still wearing chains on his ankles.
