Pattaya Officials Crack Down Hookah Sellers
PATTAYA – April 16,2016 [PattayaDailyNews]; at 03.00am Chakorn Kanchanawattra-BangLamung chief district- ordered Poradit Chitramwong- deputy chief of BangLamung-, administrative officers, village leaders and Pattaya police to inspect Arabian restaurant who illegally sold hookah during Songkran fest.
The officers went to inspect Kamra Bar & Restaurant near Walking Street. The first floor is Kebab shop and there are 2 Syrian waiters. The officers inspected the second floor where they found about 20 foreigners were smoking hookah.
Initially, the officers checked these foreigner passport and confiscated hookah and its tobacco. In addition, restaurant owner Charunee Sungla aged 33 and her Syrian employees would have to be prosecuted according to Thai law further.
Later the police officers went to inspect Abu Abdullah restaurant which is located near the first restaurant. The owner has a Palestinian worker and he ran away when he saw the officers because he had no work permit. The officers also checked the second floor as same as the first restaurant.
The second floor is hookah smoking zone like the first restaurant but the owner had closed before the officers came. However, the officers found some hookah and its tobacco and they confiscated them as the evidence.
A Myanmar worker told the officers that he had no idea about the hookah; therefore, the officers checked CCTV footage and they found out that the operator suddenly had cleaned the second floor as the officers were checking the first restaurant. Initially, the officers arrested Anek Talntong aged 47 who is the restaurant owner.
Meanwhile, the employee of Kamra restaurant told the officers that he has Egyptian employer who illegally had sold hookah for a long time. However, the officers would have to prosecute these operators. In addition, the officers would report Chonburi governor in order to close the restaurant for a month.
