Pattaya 8th April 2010 [Pattaya Daily News] Pattaya Mayor, Mr. Ithipol Khunpluem announced the progress of the infrastructure upgrades on Koh Larn, starting with the electricity system.  The current 3 generator system that is in place for the island has become redundant as the population and needs of the region has increased, as such an extensive development plan was approved in February to upgrade the islands electrical systems by sourcing power from the Pattaya grid through the use of undersea cables.

Accordingly the 400 meter in length of undersea cables to the island has now been completed, whilst the onshore constructions are expected to be completed by April. In addition this project will allow the residents of Koh Larn, 12k-11 megawatt of electricity for general use, decreasing damages from electrical faults, and will benefit the tourist industry.

Moreover, the Electricity Generating Authority has also managed to prepare a continuation of the project around the island including Had Tawarn and Had Na Baan making access more convenient. Mr. Khunplume added that Pattaya City has proceeded in the extension of the project for Koh Larn by calling a meeting for the infrastructure every two months.

Mr. Khunpluem commented on the lack of water for the public on Koh Larn and that now the 3 new sources of water provided the natural, the water tank, and the royal warship. In addition to the alternative water refinery system ‘East Water Company’ that uses sea water to produce the water supply produces less than 2,000 cubic meters. It was found the cost would be too high at 70 baht per unit.

Accordingly, to resolve the problem, a future development project has been announced whereby undersea water pipes will be layed between the Pattaya grid and the island. At present a budget has not been allocated for the proposal but it will be put the the Pattaya City Congress at their next meeting.

The overall infrastructure development on Koh Larn, will involve the Mayor preparing several ways of measuring, tourist safety, area intrusion and telephone systems as well as the amount of garbage which is around 20-30 ton a day. In the future pollution free garbage disposal system will be installed, under the research of Burabha University.
