PATTAYA – July 1,2016 [PattayaDailyNews]; At Pattaya City Hall, Col Yutthachai Thientong, deputy commander of Military Circle 14th, chaired the meeting to discuss about measurement to cope flood.
Chakorn Kanchanawatta, chief of BangLamung, said that Vamco hit Pattaya and it severely damaged property and life. The official is afraid that drainage wouldn’t be abel to shoulder a large amount of water during heavy rain. Therefore, the officials had to discuss to find the best solution.
Chanatpong Sriwiset, deputy chief of Pattaya, said that Pattaya city is low land so the water drains to Pattaya from high land. In addition, Pattaya has small drainage which can support only 65k m3 a day and it has to shoulder over 80k m3 a day.
Kashima Anuntayakorn, acting director of Pattaya municipal, said that Pattaya has been faced inundation for 3 times and the most hardest one is Vamco. Pattaya can recover 1 day after the flood. However, Pattaya officials currently have 3 temporary countermeasures 1.To install inundation preventive system 2.To add more pumps for 7 waterworks system 3.To add mobile pumps.
In the future, Pattaya officials plan to effectively and sustainably cope the problem by widening drainage, constructing wall, adding drainage canal to sea and developing city plan.
However, the officials aim to set up public hazard prevention centre during rainy season. Plus, they would dredge to widen canals in Pattaya and they would provide sufficient pumps.
