PATTAYA – January 22, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]: Pattaya government workers got a welcome break from the daily grind of work, thanks to a city-sponsored sports tournament in front of Pattaya City Hall.

Participants showed their competitive spirit in the Chair ball tournament, which pitted the purple team against the light-blue team. The games attracted a lot of government officers from every department. They either joined the games as athletes, or cheered from the sidelines as team supporters.

Chair ball is a Thailand game loosely resembling basketball. However, the baskets on each side are held up by people standing on chairs. Players are not allowed to advance the ball by dribbling, but can either pass or kick the ball to teammates.

Players can also shoot at the basket. The basket holder can also adjust the basket to meet the oncoming ball to score points for his team.

The semi-final Chair ball game was divided into 20 minutes halves. The first half went fiercely in a see-saw battle, as the points scored by the purple and the light-blue teams were very close together.

But near the end of the first half, the purple went soft, and the blue team accelerated to make points, and the blue shot ahead to a 40-28 lead over the purple. When the second half began, the blue team won the ball jumping, and it gradually increased its lead over the purple team. The final score was a 74-57 victory for the blue team, which advanced to the final championship game tomorrow.

The local color sports tournament of Pattaya has been held from January 17 – February 1, for the government staff members and officers to promote exercise for good health, and to create good relationships among employees.
