The resolution was made during the second day of PAD’s gathering in a stadium at Thammasat University’s Rangsit campus north of Bangkok to mark the first anniversary of the group’s 193-day movement against the then governments, believed to be supported by the ousted former premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

Their first day’s meeting was Sunday at Rangsit University.

All five central leaders of the PAD a popular movement with no officially designated head but comprising Sondhi Limthongkul, Maj-Gen. Chamlong Srimuang, Somsak Kosaisuk, Pipob Thongchai and Somkiat Pongpaibul all of whom were on stage at the Thammasat University during a heavy downpour.

The PAD’s supporters were asked to stand and cheer if they agreed with the idea of forming a political party and if they opposed amending the Constitution.

They later showed their strong support for the twin agendas by standing, clapping their hands and cheering loudly for two minutes.

Key PAD leader Sondhi Limthongkul, who survived an assassination bid late last month, said to his supporters that the establishment of a political party is a long term “intellectual investment” of the group and the PAD supporters should get themselves ready for the party formation.

PAD coordinator Suriyasai Katasila said that the format structure and party personnel will take shape within three months.

“The party leader is not yet been chosen. We must listen to the voice of the public, as well as (carefully considering) the name of the new party. We must wait for the group’s resolution,” the PAD coordinator affirmed. (TNA)
