Norwegian Dies After Bar Fight With Compatriot

A Norwegian businessman got into a drunken fight with a drinking companion, but later died in the hospital from a fractured skull. His head had hit the rim of a table when he was falling after being punched. His countryman fled the bar after the fatal blow.

PATTAYA – September 21, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]: a report of an injured foreigner being taken to the hospital after a bar fight was received by Pol. Lt. Col. Nattawat Srithongpetch, detective inspector of Muang Pattaya police station, Chonburi.

The severely-injured foreigner had been taken to the Pattaya Memorial Hospital. However, he died a day later in the hospital. The victim was identified as Mr. Jarle Nyegaard, age 43, nationality Norwegian.

The fight resulting in the fatal injury occurred in the early morning hours of September 20, at a Second Road Pattaya beer bar named Kare’s Party Bar.

Mr. Jarle and about three or four compatriot friends had been eating and drinking at the bar. But later he and one of his friends, “Mr. Bubu,” about 35 to 40 years old, got into an argument.

They then began fighting. Mr. Bubu punched Mr. Jarle’s head, and as Mr. Jarle was falling, his head accidentally hit the rim of a table. Mr. Bubu then escaped.

Mr. Jarle was sent to the hospital, but doctor were only able to keep him alive for one day. The doctor said he had a fracture in his skull.

The police sent detectives to check the scene again to find more evidence to follow up and detain Mr. Bubu for further proceedings in the case.
