Military Orders Control of Motorcycle Services in Pattaya

NCPO has ordered to take control of the public transportation services in Pattaya which is the major policy of NCPO to reduce affliction of people and in order to improve the image of Pattaya city. The meeting was also held for the mutual understanding that provided the basic guidelines to motorcycle taxi riders.

PATTAYA – June 30, 2014, [Pattaya Daily News]: At 13:00 at Muang Pattaya school 8, Maj.Gen.Opat Uttaranakorn, vice commander of 14th military circle- had chaired the opening conference of controlling motorcycle taxi riders. The conference was joined by District Chief of Banglamung, Vice Prime Minister of Pattaya, and the Transportation Officer of Pattaya and more than 300 of motorcycle taxi riders attended the meeting.

 

The conference of controlling motorcycle taxi riders in Pattaya is the major policy of NCPO to reduce affliction of people. The meeting agenda is conformed to the public transportation problems in Pattaya especially the problems of motorcycle taxis that have rapidly increased like mushrooms. There were some problems such as unfair fares, inefficient service which has eventually called for the cooperation between the 14th military circle and the sheriff and local authorities to solve and control these problems.

Initially, they had planned 3 major road Maps which were 1.to control the operators to not be involved with the mafia or official officers to earn illegal benefit2.to determine and upgrade the strict rules 3.to make sustainable business for success. In addition they will clamp down on the mafia because they had collected bribes from the operators who then charged a high fair to recoup the bribe.

 

The Vice President said that this was the policy of NCPO to develop the transportation system. It’s believed that this will improve the image of Pattaya and improve people’s lives.

 

The Sheriff of Banglamung reported that from now on the motorcycle riders will have career in a better direction. They will perform an legal career that will be preserved for the professional motorcycle riders only and will gain more public confidence.

Mr. Chatchai, the transport officer said: “After the motorcycle riders registered with the city is completed, they must also be registered with the public transport department for the driver’s license .If anyone with a driver’s license for the personal car wish to obtain a license, the temporary public car driving license for 1 year can be issued, after which a legitimate offer can then be issued. Motorcycle riders, who do not follow the rules will be prosecuted accordingly to the law.

 

For 2-15 Jul 2014 from 9:00 to 17:00 hours in Conference Room 231, Pattaya City will open the registration for motorcycle riders and this is to be kept in consideration for issuing the license. Fares are that are currently being charged unfairly will also be adjusted to the fixed rate of not more than 25 baht for first two kilometers and 5 baht increase for the next kilometer. If the distance is more than 5 kilometers, the fares will be charged as agreed by the passengers. For infringement against the rule, the motorbike riders will be charged with a fine not exceeding 5,000 baht and stay permit will be withheld not exceeding 6 months each time.
