PATTAYA – August 6, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; An order was given to crack down on drug problems in the area by Pol. Col. Theerapol Jindaluang, vice commissioner of police 2. He commanded Pol. Lt. Col. Jung Wongjan, vice detective inspector of police 2, and plainclothes officers to find clues and arrest drug dealers and users in Banglamung.

The police team began observing drug dealers who acted suspicious in a community behind Thammasamakkee temple in south Pattaya.

They found a man talking on the phone in front of his house who seemed suspicious. The detectives showed themselves and asked to search the man. He initially protested and asked for their IDs, and then showed them his fake ID.

The man’s fake ID stated he was the officer of the metropolitan police, and his name was Pol. Lt. Capt. Settawut Panusitdejanon, vice inspector. His false ID was registered on February 29, 2008, and expires on February 28, 2015.

Even though the ID card looked real, police were not convinced, so they checked with Royal Thai Police office. The police staff there said no one by that name was in their system, so the police officers brought him to his house to conduct a search. The man was living in his mother’s house just 10 meters away.

When they reached the house, police saw a framed picture of Mr. Settawut dressed like Police Lieutenant Captain inside. They also found two black jackets printed POLICE 2, and a fake gun. Police seized the evidence.

Mr. Settawut then told the police that he had driven a taxi in Bangkok and he had been a drug informant for the Bangkok police. So he knew a police colonel, and because they were close to each other, he asked the colonel to make him a fake police ID card.

Mr. Settawut claimed he had never used his fake ID to boast anywhere. He just wanted to use the police ID and the framed picture of himself to threaten the loan collector bothering his mom.

Pol. Lt. Capt. Jung said the police had actually been waiting to ambush and search teenagers in the area suspected of drug activity, and it had not been their intent to arrest Mr. Settawut.

However, because of the drug dealers and users in the area, if police did not arrest Mr. Settawut, word might get around that the police are threatening people for money, which would damage the reputation of the police.

Police are initially charging Mr. Settawut with forging a government document and using a fake government document illegally, and sent him to the investigation team.
