LAMPANG – March 20, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; A journalist went to investigate a report of fake 20 THB banknotes being used to pay food merchants in Tambon Wiang Neua, Amphur Meuang, Lampang province.

The reporter went to inspect the noodle restaurant of Mrs. Wanphen Rachprasit, age 50. She said that on Sunday, a customer came to eat noodles, and had paid for his food with a fake 20 THB banknote. At first she didn’t know it was a fake banknote because she was so busy. So she became the victim of the counterfeiter.

The reporter then talked to Mrs. Pranee Tornrub, age 46, a vendor of red ants’ eggs. She said that on the same day, she was selling red ants’ eggs in Kamphaengmeuang community. She also got a fake 20 THB banknote, but could not remember which customer gave it to her.

From observing the fake 20 THB banknote, the reporter found that it was made of ordinary paper without the water pattern. It appeared to be a color photocopy on only one side. The other side of the fake banknote was blank.

But the counterfeiter had folded the fake THB bill in half when paying the vendors. So if they were not observing closely, they would not notice it was fake. The troublemaker also picked shops that had many customers at the time, because the busy owner would not be careful to check the money.
