On18 July, at 4 am, Police Captain Ekachai Moonlee, Sattahip Police Investigator, was notified by the security guard of the Chokchai 2 Village, Sattahip that a boy-thief had been arrested after breaking into three houses on the estate in one night. A police team was duly dispatched to investigate.

At the village compound, police found a large group of people and the security guard holding the boy, Jarun Simjarern. The wronged house owners were Miss Samai Pohthong,33, of house no.139/47, Mrs. Gunnigar Sorsawang,45, of house no. 139/49 and Mrs. Boon Eim Koonrae, 36, from house no. 139/50.

The police made the boy stage a reconstruction of his crimes after he had confessed. It was evident from the joyful expressions on the faces of the witnesses and others who lived in the village that they were extremely happy to see the thief finally arrested. They said they had been worried for a long time after nearly every house on the estate had been robbed. This time, the thief had managed to steal valuables to the value of Bt50,000.

Questioning Jarun, police first forced a confession out of him after which he also told them that he had been out of prison for only about 4 months; imprisoned for theft. He said he had tried to look for a job but nobody wanted to hire him because he was too young. He also told police that he had been in and out of juvenile prison on many occasions and that in his career of theft he had robbed over 20 other houses.

The police will; try to recover the stolen valuables and return them to their owners. In addition, they will investigate ‘fences’, that is, shop owners who are thought to have received the stolen items from the thief.

Anybody who has been robbed in the area should contact the police, giving details of their losses and also help to identify the thief, so he can be severely punished and sent back to prison.
