Iran, 24th September 2010: Addressing the 65th UN General Assembly in New York yesterday, just a few miles away from Ground Zero, Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accused the US Government for orchestrating the 9/11 attacks in order to prop up Israel.

His addressing of the representatives of 192 member countries who dismissed his comments as “abhorrent and delusional”,  prompted a walkout of the US and UK delegates from the chamber of the UN General Assembly

While Iran is being squeezed by sanctions imposed by the UN, Ahmadinejad showed no desire to extend a placatory hand, but instead opted to repeat several old conspiracy theories relating to the terrorist attacks on September 11th 2001.  “One theory of the days’ events,” he told the delegates were that, “the US government orchestrated the attack in order to save Zionist regimes in the Middle East”.

He continued to say that there was evidence that the US government had supported the attacks including the passports of the men who had been involved with US officials, while no trace of the alleged suicide attackers had been retrieved.

The comments referring to the 9/11 attack will not be seen as hope “Iran meet its obligations in international conventions and confirm to the world the peaceful intent of its nuclear program.”

Ahmadinejad said he remained “ready for a dialogue based on respect and justice for a free debate with US statesmen.” The President continued to warn that if the security council of the UN continued with intimidation and sanctions, it would destroy its own credibility.

Theories that the 9/11 was an act of a US agent provocateur or even that George Bush himself had long been one of the most prevalent conspirators relating to the attacks was mentioned by the Iranian President, who compared relating attacks to the death of 3,000 people who died on 9/11 to the hundreds of thousands who were killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
