Do you need to lose weight fast?  If so, this Cabbage Soup Diet may be just the thing as it involves consuming only cabbage over a span of 7 days. The effect of this diet is very noticeable though not long lasting. The cabbage soup diet plan is fast and cheap. It is not magic, it is just part of what you eat that helps you lose weight fast. The diet consists of an easy to follow plan, stating each day what you are allowed to eat along with the soup so you know before hand what is required, but remember this is only for one week too help give you that boost, it is not a long term eating plan. This diet can also be looked at as a kind of cleansing diet as it helps flush your system.

Since the diet involves all common foods you may already have most of it and it will not cost an arm and leg. Special foods and supplements are not required as the diet contains simple foods in large quantities which is eaten the world over, but does lack in nutrients. There are endless ways to make this soup with a choice of recipes.

The principle of the cabbage soup diet is to combine ingredients known for their slimming properties along with fruits, vegetables and meat, but not at the same time or day restricting calories and carbohydrates intake. It fills you up keeping away hunger. People that want to lose the pounds, must stick with this plan rigidly for the 7 days.

There are side effects to be considered with this soup diet, which is the reason it must be used as part of a weight loss program after the first week.The most common side effect is flatulence, which can be highly embarrassing. Cabbage is high on fiber which is indispensable to good intestinal transit. The idea of the cabbage soup plan is to consume low calories and fat which may cause a person to experience low energy levels which can affect the concentration and creativity. It can cause weakness, fatigue and mood swings, and because it is lacking in protein, may also cause dizziness and in some people, migraine.

The cabbage soup is excellent for flushing the body system, working as a detoxifier, removing all toxins and unnecessary substances from the body which can lead to diarrhea. There are mild effects which include discoloration of the eyes, muscle reduction and nausea with a reduction in the metabolic rate. If the soup diet is followed for too long, the side effects may intensify.  I must reiterate that it is not a balanced diet so should not be followed for more than the one week, but can be included into a weight loss program.

The origins of the cabbage soup diet is not really known, some people say it was developed in the US hospitals while others believe it originated from the Belgium University Hospital. Regardless of where it came from, it has been around for fifteen years, being used for obese patients when quick weight loss is required before undergoing surgery.

Ingredients;

1                     cabbage head (shredded or chopped)

2                     2 onions chopped

3                     2 green peppers

4                     30 ounces of canned tomatoes (chopped)

5                     4 stalks of celery

6                     Fresh herbs of your choice (chopped)

7                     Black pepper

8                     6 carrots (Sliced)

9                     1/2 pounds of green beans (sliced diagonally)

10                 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar

Procedure

Place the chopped vegetables in a pot with the onions. Cut off the stem of green pepper and cut the remaining part into two halves. Separate the seeds from the pepper and cut it in small pieces. Add these pieces to the pot. Now, sliced cabbage is to be added to the pot. Mix 8 glasses of water in it. Add pepper and salt to the soup and cook it for two hours. You can drink this soup anytime throughout your cabbage soup and as much as you want.

Day One… Eat all the fruit you want except bananas. Drink unsweetened tea, cranberry juice and plenty of water. To repeat, every day you can eat all the cabbage soup you want.

Day Two…Eat all the fresh, raw or cooked vegetables you want. No fruits. Avoid dry      beans, peas and corn. For dinner have a big baked potato with butter.

Day Three:…Today eat all the soup, fruits and vegetables you want. No baked        potato.

Day Four… Believe it or not, remember I said this is also known as the banana diet. Eat up to EIGHT bananas plus all the skim milk you want!!! Soup too, of course.

Day Five… This is beef and tomatoes day. Eat ten to twenty ounces of beef and up to six fresh tomatoes. Drink at least six to eight glasses of water this day. You may substitute broiled or baked chicken for the beef.  Skin off the chicken.

Day Six…Eat all the beef and vegetables you want on this day. Eat soup. No baked potatoe today

Day Seven…Today you finish up with brown rice plus unsweetened fruit juices and vegetables. Eat all you want plus the soup.
