Happy Songkran FestivalThe Songkran festival in Pattaya was a joyful event as Thai and foreign tourists had splashed water together without any incidents. The tourist police had a larger visual presence and were positioned in high risk crime areas .
PATTAYA – April 19,2015 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 2.00 p.m. journalists reported about Wan Lai Pattaya festival 2015 that there were over 10,000 tourists who came to splash water in Pattaya in the early morning which caused major traffic jams on Pattaya 3rd road and especially on the Sukhumvit road because so many cars were heading towards Bangkok.
On Pattaya beach road the water splashing started in north Pattaya to south Pattaya, with a total distance of 2.7 km. Pattaya city had closed the road from 8,00am to 20.00pm so that people could enjoy the festival without worrying about traffic.
Moreover, the journalists also reported that at 3.00 p.m. on the same day, Pol.Col. Withoon Lueangamornsak (Superintendent) and Pol.Maj. Piyaphong Ensarn (Inspector) together mobilized forces of police and volunteer police to inspect public order and also to give out plastic wallets to Thai and foreign tourists.
Pol.Maj. Piyaphong said that for they inspected public order to prevent and suppress any crimes and unrest because in the past the culprits always took the opportunity while tourists were splashing water to steal their property. Therefore Pattaya tourist police had ordered the bicycle patrol team and foot patrol officers to patrol various high risk areas.
