Bangkok, the 2nd of July 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: The two men, Mr. Miguel Antonio Cordoba Rodriguez and Mr. Victor M Cortez, were arrested having returned to the Old Siam Plaza near Chinatown after having been suspected of an attempted theft the previous day.

According to the owner of a gold/jewellery shop in the shopping center, the two men had attempted to steal a Bt3 million gold/diamond necklace from his store on Wednesday.

Having prevented the theft the previous day and not informing police, the owner was annoyed at the pairs return to the center, where he suggested they had only come to attempt their crime again.

Center Security detained the pair awaiting the arrival of police. Under initial questioning, the pair refused to accept a charge of attempted theft stating that they had merely wanted to look at the gold which they had been intending to buy for their mothers.

Officers were reluctant to believe their stories, subsequently charging them with attempted theft. Due to the careless nature of the offender’s crime officers suspect they may have propagated the crime on other stores in the past. Authorities urge anybody who suspects that they were a victim of these offenders to report to the Phraratchawang Police Station in Bangkok.
