On 24 November 2008, at 6:30 pm, Pattaya Police investigator, police Major Sompol Nakkumpan was notified that a man had apparently been murdered at his room at the “Rai Sam Pee Nong” apartment, located at 46/62-63, South Pattaya Soi 5, Moo 10, Nongprue, Banglamung. A police team together with the Sawang Boriboon Rescue went to investigate.

When they arrived at the victim’s room no.31 in the 4 storey apartment block the police found the door was securely locked from the outside and they had to cut off the padlock to enter. In the bedroom was the body of Mr. Tanorm Mungtet (32) from Sukhothai, who was lying face down on the floor, and wearing a white singlet and flowery shorts. His body was covered in blood and there were 7 stab wounds around his neck. Police presumed he had been dead for about one day.

The room had been thoroughly ransacked and almost all valuable items, including his bracelet, necklace [5-Baht gold weight each] and a watch were taken by the attacker. The TV and the fan were still switched on.

Police found many footprints throughout the room but they did not find the knife used in the attack.

Mr. Witoon Nummod (34), the apartment owner, told police that Mr. Tanorm, had rented the room and lived alone for a long time but he always brought young boy companions back to his room. Mr. Witoon also said that Mr. Tanorm worked at the Sawatdee Boy a-go-go in Pattaya Land, as a mama son.

Mr. Witoon said he had seen a young gay man with long hair leaving the apartment at around midday on 23rd November. The man had calmly driven away the victim’s car (a grey Toyota Vios, No. 4442, Chonburi).

On the following day he didn’t see the victim leave his room for work as usual. By the evening he became suspicious that something must have happened so he checked the victim’s room and found it was securely locked from the outside.

Mr. Witoon climbed over from the neighbour’s room and saw the body of Mr. Tanorm lying in a pool of blood. His neighbours said there had been a big argument and fighting in the victim’s room but they didn’t want to get involved as they considered it a private matter.

The victim’s friends told investigators that Mr. Tanorn liked to go out alone to find company privately so it was difficult to know the identity of his last companion. They also said Mr. Tanorn had a lot of cash with him all the time.

The police team is currently conducting an in-depth investigation, questioning most of the people who had known the deceased and with the evidence they have they are confident they’ll bring the criminal to justice soon.
