Bangkok, 30 November 2010 (PDN) : At 12.00pm the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police7 Office, Major General Jaruwat Wisaya, and his investigation team announced the arrest in Pattaya of a foreign gang of professional thieves.

The accused are Mr. Jamesmy David Riwera Kusado [41], Mr. Roberto Piewra Luna [26] and Mr. Moses Sililo Kutiares Autis [25] from Peru and Mr. Raul Pomalaya [33] from Argentina. Police claim to have found evidence belonging to the gang including gas tools, 2 small gas tanks and 20 valuable items such as gold necklaces, rings, earrings, watches, computer notebooks, and digital cameras with an estimated value of 200,000 baht.

The gang was tracked down and arrested by Metropolitan Police 7 Investigators at a rental house in Thanyawan Village, Nongprue, Banglamung following the previous arrest of another 2 members of the gang. For now the four suspects have denied any involvement in crime claiming that the items found belonged to a gang member’s wife and some friends.

The stolen items had been identified by several victims, who came from Ayudthaya, Pathumthani, Samutsongkhram, and the Metropolitan area. Most lived in the area of the Thammasala Police station.

Metropolitan Police7 Investigator Chief Major Colonel Atglab stated that the suspects were hiding in Pattaya acting as tourists. Their modus operandi was to rent a vehicle and target luxury residences from which they would steal valuable items to be sold or pawned. They would then transfer the money to their country. If some items couldn’t be sold, they would also be sent home via the post.

Police found documents from money transfers and postal receipts, together with wigs and masks that the suspects used for their crimes. The police suspect that the gang may also be involved in the theft of a safety box from the house of a female staff member of Thai Airways.
