Case of Shallow Grave Murder Near Pattaya Resolved

The case of an unknown man found dead in a shallow grave next the stream at Khao Mai Kaew has nearly been resolved by Chon-Buri police, following the arrest of two of the three murderers.

Pattaya, the 1st of February 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At 11:00am police Lieutenant General Thanet Pingamueng (Chon-Buri Police Commissioner), Lieutenant Colonel Prakob Saengpring (Huay Yai Superintendent) and a team of investigators released a statement to the press explaining that the deceased man found buried in a shallow grave in bushland near Khao Mai Kaew was that of Mr. Jaroonsak Jarungchatchawan from Baan Suan, Chon-Buri. Further to obtaining the man’s name, police were able to apprehend two of the three suspects involved in his murder.


The two suspects apprehended by the police taskforce are, Mr. Cha-um Wirojrat [44] from Baan Suan and Mr. Patinya Prawthaisong [18] from Nakhon Ratchasima. It is alleged that there was a third man involved in the murder, however; he has continued to evade police detection. The third mans name is Mr. Suthep Pithakyat [48] from Sriracha, Chon Buri and is believed to be the ringleader. Lt. Gen. Pingamueng revealed that the continued police investigation uncovered the name of the deceased before they were able acquire the names of his murderers. Warrants were issued for the arrests of the three men; however the third man was able to avoid arrest and is believed to be on the run.


Officers interrogated both suspects who revealed that they had deceived Mr. Jarungchatchawan to meet at the location before they murdered him with the use of a shotgun, stones and a shovel. They then hid his body and returned the preceding day to bury it in the location that it was discovered in. The two men revealed that Mr. Pithakyat, still on the run, instructed Mr. Jarungchatchawan to purchase a firearm for him, giving him an amount of 30,000 baht. Mr. Jarungchatchawan returned with an old shotgun allegedly not worth the amount of money provided. Angry, Mr Pithakyat and the two arrested suspects deceived Mr. Jarungchatchawan to the secluded location in order to kill him with the shotgun he purchased, however; the aforementioned gun did not even work, resulting in the trio beating Mr. Jarungchatchawan to death with it and other tools.

The two arrested men have now been charged with murder and are secured in police custody awaiting further judicial proceedings to commence. Police will continue with investigations in an attempt to arrest the alleged ringleader, Mr. Pithakyat and bring him to justice.
