On 13 January 2008, at 7am, the Pattaya Fire Department was notified that a fire had erupted at the Casta Petoria Gym and Fitness Center, located at 61/17 Moo 10, near Wat Boon Sampan School, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi. A police team and the fire department, with five fire trucks, rushed to the scene of the blaze.

The fire broke out in the sauna room of the one story fitness center. The crackling sounds of flames could be heard coming from the sauna area, which is located in the back of the gym. Fire fighters were able to bring the blaze under control within thirty minutes. After inspecting the building, it was estimated that there were damages in the neighborhood of 500,000 baht. Fortunately, there were no injuries.

Mr. Jakgrit Santikawong (48), a witness and owner of the land that the fitness center was built on, told police that he rented the land to Miss Kulnapa Boonrat (29) for the purpose of building the fitness center. On the day of the fire, Mr. Jakgrit awoke at 5am to the sounds of electrical sparks, but wasn’t sure of the source of the trouble. While walking around the area, he spotted flames coming from the fitness center; and called the police.

Police interviewed Miss Kulnapa, the owner of the fitness center, who arrived at the scene quite visibly upset. She explained that she had recently opened the gym and did not know what could have caused the fire.

“Luckily, the place wasn’t open yet when the accident occurred; so there wasn’t anybody in the building,” she added.

Police will conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
