Faulty Aquarium Pump Starts Fire In Rayong House

The oxygen pump of an aquarium in the Rayong house of a contractor apparently short-circuited and exploded, causing a fire that caused an estimated 100,000 THB in damages. Firefighters took about 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze. The homeowner was out working at the time.

SATTAHIP – January 21, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 2 p.m., a report of a house fire in a Ramnuch Village home was received by Pol. Sub. Lt. Noraphat Thongdee, investigation officer, Sattahip police station.

He rushed to the scene with 2 fire trucks and the officers of protection and relief from public disasters, Tambon Kethudomsak municipal. The fire was burning in a house at 134/77 Ramnuch village 19 Soi Roongroj Moo 4 Tambon Sattahip, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province.

At the scene, officers arrived at a 1-story concrete house enclosed by a fence. The fire was burning inside the house, which was emitting a lot of smoke. Firefighters sprayed water for more than 20 minutes to extinguish the fire. They later inspected inside the house and found that the appliances and furniture were all burnt.

The absent owner of the house was identified as Mr. Banjong Rassameechot, age 41. He is a contractor, who had been working at Rayong province at the time of the fire.

Pol. Lt. Col. Noraphat Thongdee, investigation officer, said it appeared that the origin of the fire was from the oxygen pump in the aquarium of silver dragon fish in the house. The pump had had apparently short-circuited and exploded, which triggered the fire.

The total damages to the house and victim’s properties was estimated at approximately 100,000 THB.
