Fake Police Extort Cambodian Fishing Crew

A Cambodian fishing crew were arrested by 3 men who said they were police after they were caught playing cards. The men then asked for all their money before letting them go free.

SATTAHIP – August 15th 2015 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 10.00 a.m. journalists were informed by Mr. Pairoj Sae-Heng, aged 43, who is the captain of a squid fishing boat called Chok Montri 3 that 3 males who claimed that they were the police had arrested 4 of his Cambodian crews members while they were playing cards on his boat. They then took 2,900 THB from the men.


Mr. Pairoj said that after questioning his crew they told him that they were playing cards when 3 men showed up and claimed that they were the police and handcuffed them. They then searched them and said that if they give them all their money they will let them go. They then gave them a total of 2,900 THB and where free to go, the 3 men left the scene.


Mr Pairoj said additionally that even though his crew were playing cards which is illegal the 3 men shouldn’t of extorted money from them. Therefore he would like to ask for the assistance from the superintendent of Sattahip police station to investigate the men and prosecute them according to the Thai law.
