The police found the suspect walking around Koh Lan market so they Identified themselves to search him. He was identified as Mr. Phadoongkiet Waiwinya, aged 30, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya resident. Upon searching him the officers found a 9mm pistol, 4 bullets and a fake government officer card that indicated his rank as a Police Captain from the Immigration Bureau. The police then asked to search his room and found many martial armaments such as 5 pairs of handcuffs, 1 BB gun, 1 radio communication, 2 flashlights and many police uniforms, therefore the officers seized all of exhibits for evidence.

Pol.Col. Supphachai Phuikaewkharm revealed that previously the police of Pattya city police station had received complaints from local people on Koh Lan Island including many business entrepreneurs that Mr. Phadoongkiet would arrest alien workers that worked on Koh Lan Island then extorted money from the businesses they work for to release them. Also the police knew that Mr. Phadoongkiet had stolen a 9 mm gun from Koh Lan shooting gallery and the gun owner had already notified the police.

Upon investigating Mr. Phadoongkiet (the defendant), he half resisted and half yielded that he used to work as an employee at Chonburi Immigration Bureau but he resigned a long time ago. He had counterfeited the government officer card just for fun and he never used it to threaten people into extorting money from them. However, the police had lots of proof, witnesses and evidence so they detained him with all the exhibits and sent him to the investigation officer in order to prosecute him further according to the Thai law.
