Pattaya, the 18th of May 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 4:00am on Tuesday, police Major Suppharuek Youphrai (Pattaya Police Officer) noticed two suspicious looking men loitering along Pattaya Beach Road. The two suspects attempted to flee upon being approached by police; however they were successfully apprehended and escorted to the nearby Pattaya Police Station.

Initial investigations of the two men did not uncover any illegal drugs; however police decided to investigate the two men further in an attempt to assertain why they had attempted to runaway. Prior to reaching the station one of the suspects discarded a tissue on the ground which police found to contain a small amount of marijuana. Further illegal and fake drugs were found concealed in the two offender’s shoes once investigations proceeded back at the police station.

In total the two men were in possession of 3 small packets of marijuana whilst the fake drugs found in their possession included; 2 packets of marijuana, 4 Ya-E pills, 5 tubes of Ya-Ice and an unknown quantity of fake heroin concealed inside 4 drinking straws.

After interrogating the two offenders, Mr. Prapat Thongkham [30] and Mr. Saphat Sanrum [38] the pair revealed that they had regularly dealt fake drugs to foreigners, primarily along Beach Road and that they had both been apprehended for similar offences before. Mr. Thongkham explained that they would present the real marijuana to potential customers before selling them the fake drug and fleeing the scene with the money. Both men pleaded that they had ceased to offend since their prior arrest and that they had only recently started to deal again because they had not been able to gain genuine employment.

The two offenders have now been remanded in police custody where they will remain awaiting further judicial proceedings to commence.
