At 10.00 am, on 28 May, Pol.Lt.Col. Chonnapat Nawaluk, the Pattaya Deputy Superintendent, was informed that a woman had been beaten up and almost raped at a rented room in Soi Sanam Geela Yaowachon, Thepphrasit Soi 7, Moo. 12. He then reported to his supervisor, Pol. Col. Teerapol Jindaloung, following which, he rushed to the incident scene with his team and paramedic backup.

At a single-rowed building, the police found Mrs. Benjakhita Thanachokburapa, [29], a native of Bangkok, who works as salesperson for a condominium project in Central Pattaya Road, lying on the bed with a severely battered and swollen face. The rescue team gave her first aid and rushed her to the Banglamung Hospital.

Not far from the scene, police discovered that a group of people had held Mr. Pairat Sawangsri,[25] from Pakglet Nonthaburi, the suspect, who had earlier beaten Mrs. Benjakhita up. Police took him to the police station for investigation.

Questioning Mrs. Benjakhita, the victim, police were told that Mr. Pairat, a motorbike taxi driver at Soi Thepphrasit, had previously been her boyfriend, but she had since finished with him. He, however, was not prepared to accept being jilted and continued to hassle her in an attempt to resume their relationship.

At 2.00 am, on the day the incident happened, he came to see her at her room, knocked on the door and told her that he had run out of the petrol, but she was reluctant to open the door and refused to let him in. Mr. Pairat, however, wouldn’t take no for an answer and continued knocking on her door until, at the end of her tether, she finally relented and let him in. As soon as he gained entry, however, he unexpectedly punched her in the face many times, kicked her and grabbed her head, pushed her face down against the concrete floor.

Mr. Pairat then pushed her onto the bed and tried to rape her, she continued to relate, but as a result of the beating she had sustained, she threw up. Mr. Pairat, at this point, locked the door and went to sleep, leaving her suffering from the wounds he had inflicted. Mrs. Benjakhita told police that she had written a short note, which she threw out of the room to her neighbour, asking for help. The neighbour duly informed the police and when Mr. Pairat later tried to exit, the neighbour and others, managed to restrain him until the police arrived and took him away.

Mr. Pairat was later charged with causing malicious harm and attempted rape
