At 11.30 AM, on July 21, a tourist who had been in the sea off Haad Ta-waen Beach, Koh Larn, passed out in the water. The man was a Hong Kong Chinese tourist, named Mr. Chu Shou (86). The sea rescuers immediately helped him up to the rescue boat and rowed him ashore.

It took about 10 minutes to get the man to the beach and the staff from Pattaya Memorial Hospital, who had been notified, promptly gave him first aid and then transferred him to the hospital. Mr. Shou’s condition was quite poor, however, and he didn’t respond well to treatment. The doctor and nurses had tried to pump his heart and used a respirator to help, en route to the hospital, but were not optimistic about his chances.

Mr.Chu Shou came to Pattaya as a tourist with a group tour of 20 people and had stayed at Phu-Phaya Resort, Soi 17, South Pattaya, for 2 days. In the morning, the tour guide had taken the tourists to the sea at Haad Ta-waen Beach on Koh Larn for some swimming and beach entertainment. Mr. Chu Shou had gone out into the sea to a depth where it covered his waist . Suddenly, Mr. Shou had a fainting fit whilst in the sea, but he was subsequently rescued and taken to the hospital.

At around 7pm, Pattaya Memorial hospital informed Pattaya police station that Mr. Shou had passed away due to having been short of oxygen for so long. The authorities handed over Mr. Shou’s body to Sawang Boriboon Rescue, Pattaya, to take him to the forensic laboratory to discover the real cause of death and will contact his relatives to take the body to perform the ritual funeral ceremony accordingly.
