PATTAYA – July 23, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; At 1:30 a.m., Pol. Lt. Col. Tossaphol Somneuk, investigating officer, Banglamung police station, Nong Preusub branch, Chonburi province, was notified by a Pattaya apartment owner that a tenant had died in his apartment of unknown causes. He rushed to the scene with the rescue officer from the Sawangboribul Pattaya foundation.

They were met by Ms. Petchara Duangpoot, 33, the owner of the room at Baan Uaharthorn project, Na Kleu, second building, 2nd floor, address 83/25 Moo 4, Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung.

In the bedroom they found the body of Mr. Robert William Criffith, 66, an American, lying on the bed naked and bleeding. They also found sperm stains on his sexual organ. He had been dead approximately 10 hours. On the dressing table near Mr. Robert’s head was a notebook computer that was opened for working, so police kept it for evidence.

During questioning, Ms. Petchara said that Mr. Robert had rented the room for more than 10 months. He stayed alone, but had an American friend living at the fifth building about 50 meter meters away. She knew that Mr. Robert was ill with heart disease. In the evening she had made several phone calls to him but could not contact him. So she got worried and went to see him because he lived alone. Then she found he died on the bed.

Pol. Lt. Col. Tossaphol Somneuk revealed that from inspecting the corpse, there was no trace of fighting. For a cause of death, the police speculated that Mr. Robert had have been overcome with sexual excitement while watching pornography from his notebook computer. They assumed he had masturbated until climax, and then had a heart attack from the strain on his weakened heart. However, the police will inform the U.S. embassy of the death before sending the body to the hospital for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
