Dutch Bar Owner Found Stabbed To Death

A Dutch man who owned 2 bars in Udon Thani province was found dead at his home. He had sustained stab wounds to his neck, hands, arms, and stomach. Police found him in his garden.

UDON THANI – March 1, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 8.00 a.m. the officers of Rom Pho Thong radio centre of Mueang Udon Thani police station were notified that there was the blood stain near a car beside house no. 180 Soi Phiboon, Non Phiboon community, Supphakitjanya, Udon Thani Municipality, so they assumed that there might be an injured person so Pol.Lt.Col. Kamol Uppakarat (Inspector police on duty of Mueang Udon Thni province) rushed to inspect at scene together with Udon Sawang Metha Tharmma Satharn Foundation and the doctor on duty of Udon Thani Center hospital.

At the incident was a 2-storied building with a white Toyota Camry, license number Kor Khor 9739 Udon Thani was parked blocking the front gate to the house. The officers found the blood stain along which went across the lawn in front of the house. They also found a key on the floor and found traces of dragging towards the back of the house where they found the corpse of a foreign man face up and covered in blood. He had stab wounds to his throat, arms, hands and stomach. Next to the body they found 1 wrist watch, 1 ring and some cards with his name on. The officers assumed that he had been dead approximately 7 hours.

Pol.Col. Kowit Charoenwatthanasak (Superintendent of Mueang Udon Thani police station) who went to inspect at the crime scene revealed that the deceased was identified as Mr. Fred Lelie, aged approximately 60, Dutch nationality, who was the owner of Model 59 bar in Soi Samphan and Butterfly bar at Land Mart department store in Tuk Com Udon. Upon questioning the foreign volunteer who takes care of the tourists who belonged to Udon Thani Tourism Police then Pol.Col. Kowit perceived that the deceased didn’t have many foreign friends so he just associated with his bar employees and many girlfriends. At approximately 11.00-12.00 p.m. every day Mr. Fred Lelie (the deceased) usually went to collect the bars takings and would kept all money in his shoes or beneath his socks due being robbed before. He would collect around 30,000-60,000 THB each night.

Pol.Col. Kowit also said that from inspecting the scene he found that all money that the deceased had hidden was missing. He assumed that the cause of this incident might be robbery . The police believe the deceased resisted the robbers who then killed him. He will assign a detective team to follow up to arrest the culprits to be prosecuted further according to the Thai law.
