Sriracha, 8th May 2010 [Pattaya Daily News] Sriracha Police Investigator conducted a sting operation which involved purchasing Ya-Ba & Ya-Ice from Mr. Yutthaphong Phongphugna [27] from Chacherngsao at the Soi Noree Mansion, Surasaksa-nguan Road, Sriracha.  The suspect drove a white Toyota Vios car, parking it at the arranged location in the company of his girlfriend Miss Aphiradee Sanhworadee [23].

As soon as Mr. Phongphugna stopped the vehicle police teams moved to barricade his vehicle in to prevent his escape before moving in to arrest the suspect. At this point, Mr. Phongphugna pulled out a .38 revolver to shoot the officers, crashing into an officer’s pick up before successfully driving off.  The officers shot at the suspect whilst following him onto the Sukhumvit Road in the direction of Bangkok. The Officers closed the road in both directions to prevent the public from being accidentally injured. Eventually, the Officers shot at the suspects’ wheels in order to stop further escape and wounding him on his left shoulder. Miss Sanhworadee, the suspects girlfriend, was also shot in her back causing her severe injury.

After searching, the revolver was found in the suspect’s vehicle, but there were no signs of any drugs. Police assume the suspect had disposed of the Ya-Ba and Ya–Ice whilst trying to make his escape. At the brief, Mr. Phongphugna confessed to being a drug dealer, explaining that he recieved the merchandise from a larger agent in Bangkok before he would then sell to smaller clients. The rescue officers sent the suspects to Somdej Hospital in Sriracha for treatment before the pair were arrested for further judicial proceedings. The suspect’s vehicle was found to have approximately 30 bullet holes.

The sting operation was the result of an investigation carried out by an officer who knew the suspect was from Bangkok.  The apprehension was then planned making an appointment with the offender to deliver the Ya-Ba and Ya-Ice, at an agreed location in Sriracha which occurred in a sting operation by the Sriracha Police.
