On 29 November 2007, at 5pm, Deputy Superintendent Colonel Samrit Khunchit, Banglamung, Chonburi, was notified that a foreign man had attempted to slash his throat with a kitchen knife. The incident occurred at house no. 18/63 Moo Baan Chatgaew 9, Moo 5, Banglamumg, Chonburi. Police Major Phacharawit Paweeradis, and his team, rushed to the scene to investigate.

At the scene of the incident, a bungalow, Mr. Gorand Mavry (63), a French citizen, who was in an intoxicated condition, was standing behind a padlocked gate. Mr. Mavry was holding an approximately 20 centimeter long kitchen knife, pointed at his neck and cutting around his face, It was quite a grisly scene for the number of bystanders who were witnessing his meltdown.

Mr. Mavry referred to Miss Phianthong (surname unknown), his Thai wife, who had left him. It took the police about two hours to subdue Mr. Mavry. He, finally, put down the knife and opened the gate so that police could enter the house.

Mr. Mavry told police that he was distraught because his Thai wife, who had lived with him for a long time, had left him due to his drinking. He was extremely upset about his situation and consumed a large amount of alcohol until he became drunk and crazed. He apologized for his behavior and for causing a disturbance. The police led Mr. Mavry to his bedroom so he could get some rest and calm himself down.
